Anytown began as an annual human relations workshop conference for 150 youth nominated by the principals of their schools and directors of community agencies. The program was developed by the National Conference for Christians and Jews, now the National Conference for Community and Justice (NCCJ) to bring together diverse youth from disparate backgrounds and overcome isolation, segregation and discrimination, and to work toward the realization of democracy. Since 1952, the Anytown program in Arizona has grown and impacted the lives of tens of thousands of young people. In 2005, Anytown Arizona was incorporated as an independent 501(c)(3) after the national program was eliminated during a NCCJ transition. Anytown Arizona has since taken over the administration and fundraising responsibilities and continues to provide high-quality programming to hundreds of Arizona's teens each year. Moreover, Anytown Arizona has extended beyond the annual summer camps to offer year-round programs in Arizona's schools and organizations. |
